Sunscreen for sensitive skin

If you have sensitive skin, it's important to take extra care when choosing a sunscreen. Many sunscreens contain ingredients that can cause irritation, redness or even breakouts. To choose a sunscreen that is gentle and effective, here's a list of ingredients to look out for and avoid.

  1. Fragrances: Many sunscreens contain fragrances that can irritate sensitive skin. Look for sunscreens labeled "fragrance-free" to avoid potential irritation.
  1. Parabens: Parabens are preservatives that can cause irritation and contact dermatitis in sensitive skin. Avoid sunscreens with methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben listed on the label.
  1. Alcohol: Alcohol can be an irritant for sensitive skin and can also strip your skin barrier of its natural oils — so they’re best avoided.
  1. Chemical Sunscreens: chemical filters in sunscreens can cause irritation, redness, and breakouts in sensitive skin. Look for physical sunscreen ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide instead.
